Linking geometry and algebra with GeoGebra

    No full text
GeoGebra is a software package and is so named because it combines geometry and algebra as equal mathematical partners in its representations. At one level, GeoGebra can be as a dynamic geometry system like other, commercially available, software. But this is only part of the story. Another window (the algebra part of GeoGebra) provides an insight into the relationship between the geometric aspects of figures and their algebraic representations. Here each equation or set of coordinates can be edited in the algebra window and the figure instantly changes. What is more, an equation (or a function) can be typed into the space at the foot of the GeoGebra interface and the corresponding geometric representation will appear in the geometry window. Perhaps utilising GeoGebra could inspire a change from regular forms of enrichment/ extension activity to things that need high level thinking, and things that pupils may find themselves wanting to follow-up outside school lessons

Some studies point to a cooperation and even for some complementarity between the Portuguese inquisition and church’s courts. Other authors opposite this idea with the thesis that the relationship was essentially marked by conflicts. This is an issue underlying the work that I’m proposing here, focusing mainly on the relationship between the Inquisition and D. Miguel de Castro, archbishop of Lisbon (1586-1625). This analysis requires a deep knowledge about the existing political structures during the Philippine Dynasty (1580-1640), as well as the political relationships among the religious agents and the journey of D. Miguel de Castro

Resourceful leadership: how directors of children’s services improve outcomes for children, full report

    Get PDF
Leading for Outcomes is a unique study into senior leadership in children’s services in England, drawing on in-depth primary research with leaders in eight local authorities, and 22 directors of children’s services. The eight local authorities were selected on a range of factors but primarily to represent existing high performers or rapidly improving authorities in terms of outcomes. The research was commissioned by the National College in partnership with C4EO, and completed by a team comprising Deloitte, Navigate and the University of Oxford. The study was completed during 2010. The key concept the Leading for Outcomes research has uncovered is that of the resourceful leader1. This report sets out a definition of resourcefulness and the eight core behaviours of resourceful leaders. It then discusses resourcefulness within three specific contexts that emerged as part of the research: leading change, leading in a time of shock, and managing the corporate and political landscape

An Inquiry Into Micro Marketing Strategy as Implemented by the Coffee Industry: Is the Industry Fracturing the Market?

The diversity created in our society during the eighties has brought forth many new challenges for marketers. During that time established market segments subdivided themselves into micro segments. This has forced marketers to further target their marketing programs to reach the ever elusive consumer. Micro Marketing brings with it an abundance of product choices, especially in coffee. Currently, there exists a great deal of uncertainty as to the benefits of this wave of product proliferation. In this study, first, an attempt is made to identify and define Micro Marketing and the events which lead to its evolution. Substantial support is given which identifies the foundation of Micro Marketing as a natural extension of Market Segmentation. However, a review of current product offerings by the coffee industry may lead toward a return to product orientation. Which could imply further problems for a industry with flat or declining volumes. In order to access the condition of Micro Marketing, as it applies to the coffee industry, a questionnaire was developed. The primary information was gathered in grocery stores in the Jacksonville area. Data was gathered on the coffee drinking habits, brand awareness, brand loyalty, purchase influences, purchase patterns, psycographic and demographic data of consumers. This data is used to establish if any segments exist which identify with specific coffee brands. Market fracturing Consumers seems Jacksonville. show patterns to specific brands, evident, at least in hardly any segmentation while the level of brand awareness dissipates as the number of brands increase. Furthermore, the level of brand switching is extremely high indicating that market segmentation, for the most part, is non existent. Continuing to pursue market negative long term gains to the fracturing may provide firm due to its cost ineffectiveness. However, fracturing may be reversed with proper segmentation strategy. Further studies will indicate proper marketing strategies as well as provide possible avenues for growth in coffee consumption
